2018 marks the 100 year anniversary of the Representation of the People Act, which first gave some women the right to vote in the UK.
To commemorate this landmark event, 100 dinner plates were created from artwork designed by children, aged between 9 and 11, at Torriano Primary School.
The artwork was developed through workshops, inspired by class discussions, around the themes of the Suffragette/Suffragist movement, women’s rights gained since 1918, and how women’s rights can be further increased in the world today.
The artwork for the plate designs were developed through the use of drawings, collage and photographic montages on paper.
The designs were scanned and formatted on photoshop, then transformed in to ceramic decal transfers and fired on to 100 plates.
A structure was designed and built to display the plates as a temporary arts installation at Torriano primary school.
